If you are a skateboarder and grew up during the 80's then chances are you remember the Elvis shirt from Thrasher Magazine. This wasn't any ol' Elvis shirt it was... different. It wasn't the idealized vision of Elvis we're used to with swingin' hips and a microphone stand, the rocker Elvis; and it wasn't the velvet portrait Elvis, sometimes fat Elvis, either. No, this shirt had the snarling face of Elvis framed with the words "Elvis Had a Stinky Butt." This phrase doesn't seem too bad by today's standards, but back then, it was outrageous- outrageously funny to me at least.
I was in the 5th grade when my buddy Jason Seavey and I were reading a Thrasher Magazine during class- my buddy saw it first and then passed the mag to me. We both started laughing. We thought it was hilarious. So hilarious that I could not stop laughing. I mean, my teacher was starting to get SO mad. She started marking checks by my name and telling me to knock it off... but I couldn't. I laughed, and I laughed and I laughed. I laughed until they kicked me out of school for three days. Yup, I got kicked out of school for laughing uncontrollably about Elvis having a stinky butt.
